DAR HOSTA - I LOVE BOOKS A multi-media virtual tour which shows students how collage artist and certified educator, Dar Hosta, creates books from idea to finished product. Students will see various stages of the process through a 13-minute DVD presentation and a 40-minute interactive Power Point, both produced in Dar’s studio.  This energetic presentation touches on the important topic of writing revision and looks at how carefully an illustrator must plan a project like a book and is presented in a way that is informative, fun, funny, and appropriate for all grade levels. A variety of art and writing workshops and residencies also available.  Dar Hosta; Grades Pre-K-5; $1,000/$1,200 per day (4 presentations or workshops).

 

DAVID GONZALEZ, DOCTOR OF ARTS the past host of the award winning children’s radio program “New York Kids” on WNYC-AM 820 performs his cool style of funny, diverse, dynamic and physical storytelling. Choose from a dozen shows for all grades including Aesop Bops, Witches, Trolls and Mischiefmakers, Cuentos: Tales from the Latino World, Totally Awesome, JAZZ Orpheus, As If the Past Were Listening, Double Crossed:The Saga of the Saint Louis, a story commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution and Finding North, a new piece commissioned by the NEA. ELAINE GREENSTEIN author/illustrator of  thirteen books, some fiction and some non-fiction, presents a program for young writers, artists and readers. Elaine discusses all stages of making books and using a portable etching press, demonstrates how she makes her artwork. Sessions are adapted for different ages and class sizes. Writing, illustrating and bookmaking workshops are also available Elaine Greenstein; Grades PreK-6; $500/$900

 



PAULA DAVIDOFF is a writer and storyteller who uses myth, poetry, and song to lead students along a path which intertwines past with present, magic with reality, and literature with life. Students are taught to find themselves in the stories Paula tells, as they are shown how to use that insight to write and tell stories of their own. I AM ALIVE! A POETRY EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE introduces students to the worlds of poetry, discusses the basic tools a poet needs (a brain, an imagination, precision with words, etc.) and then invites students and teachers to go back to the classroom and “leave their fingerprints on the world” by writing poems. Known for his energetic, engaging and productive Poetry Residencies in New Jersey for the last twelve years, BJ Ward has designed this program for children with references that may range from Dr. Seuss to Gandhi and Shakespeare to the Three Stooges. QUEEN NUR Renown storyteller Queen Nur presents a tasty collection of shows for all ages.”Hippo Rockin’ and Bunny Hoppin’ All Around the World” uses stories, dance and music in a highly interactive performance. The tales include such favorites as “Giraffe’s Can’t Dance” and “Anansi the Greedy Spider,” stories teach character development while the interaction promotes confidence. “Sweet Potato Pie and Such” celebrates African-American heritage using song and dance, accompanied by African instruments. RAINBOW CROW an authentic Native American tale historically told by many of the indigenous people of the NJ/NY/PA/Del area, is brought to life through music and theater. Lenape language, history and storytelling traditions are interwoven throughout the tale with authentic gourd rattles, hand drums, and a traditional Lenape flute. Everyone participates during the show, learning Native American sign language and a traditional “toe-heel” dance step. Perfect follow-up to Social Studies curriculum. THE TRANSFORMATION! SHOW brings a world of folktales to life on the faces of the audience. In his unique show, author and artist Christopher Agostino combines storytelling and painted faces to completely engage any audience with a playful performance illustrated by his amazing facepainting on volunteers from the audience. Stories and content vary to suit grade levels. Several themes are available, including: Animals; Native American Totem Tales; Ecology tales; and for older audiences there’s the cultural explorations of A World History of Masks and Facepainting.
